After the debacle of the first episode, we just aren't that pumped for round two.
We were less than fond of the first episode of the newly rebooted Top Gear. , but thought that the delivery from some of the hosts (mainly Chris Evans) could have been better. The trailer for the second episode came out yesterday, and it's hard to get excited about it. The trailer shows Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc, and Eddie Jordan (who was absent in the first episode), testing three small luxury SUVs. To be honest, this sounds like it belongs on YouTube, not Top Gear.
Jeremy Clarkson once tested a few high-performance SUVs like the BMW X5M and Audi Q7 V12 TDI on the show, but other than a few cheap car challenges, the old Top Gear trio rarely wasted time reviewing boring SUVs.
In fact, when James May and Jeremy Clarkson did test SUVs, they made the whole segment a joke about how caravan enthusiasts drive SUVs when hatchbacks were far superior. The three SUVs that will be featured are all normal luxury cars. Evans, LeBlanc and Jordan will be driving the Porsche Macan, Jaguar F-Pace, and Mercedes GLC. All three are very good SUVs, but does the audience of Top Gear really care? On the first episode, we saw reviews of the Ariel Nomad, Dodge Viper ACR, and Corvette Z06. All of these cars are extremely exciting, and people still the episode. With the second episode featuring three SUVs that your parents might drive, how could the show possibly get better?
We're interested to see how new host Eddie Jordan does in this episode, however. Jordan was absent from the first episode in this new Top Gear format that won't always include every host in every episode. Evans was less than impressive, so maybe Jordan will appeal more to viewers. We also hope the Chris Harris has a larger role, but not seeing him at all in this trailer doesn't make us hopeful. After watching the trailer, are you excited for Top Gear's second episode? Let us know in the comments.
