Accomplished kid's illustrator rediscovers his passion for painting cars. This is the result.
When he first picked up an airbrush, Porsches, Corvettes and Lamborghinis were Dean MacAdam’s chosen subjects to hone his skills on. Reproducing the cars’ slick paint and chrome on his illustrations was intoxicating for the fledgling artist. But once his artistry developed into a career, his personal art was shelved. The freelance illustrator and app designer has been illustrating professionally for over 20 years, working with ad agencies and toy companies and contributing for the likes of Disney and Kinder Chocolate.
Recently, he found some free time to return to his original passion of painting cars. And the results are these highly stylized interpretations of classic cars. Influenced by his illustration work in the kid’s industry, a natural playful style emerged in his paintings. Dean imagines what the cars may have looked like had they been designed for kids, with a quirky-detailed style, such as the exaggerated headlights and small wheels, without sacrificing any of the detail. Prices range from $1,200 to $2,700 for these classic car caricatures with only 25 canvas prints per car and five artist’s proofs.
Completed series include the 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS, VW T1 Samba Bus, 1959 Pontiac Bonneville, 1957 Porsche Speedster, 1948 Chevy Fleemaster Woody, and 1955 Chevy BelAir Wagon. Dean is also working on a Mustang, Messerschmitt, Caddy, and Indian, while he also takes on private commissions. The venture is called damgallery and you can .
